Harness
A harness must always be worn - and used when going on deck at night. Disappearing over the side is most likely to occur when a member of the crew goes forward in rough weather, and has to unclip his or hers harness to change position. Therefore, if a crew member needs to wear a harness, they must also wear lifejacket, by all means. This combination makes good sense, and is faster and less fiddly to put on. If you wear a separate harness and lifejacket, always put the harness on first to ensure it's fully secure. Again, the crew should be well instructed how to operate the harness.
It's a good idea to get used to moving around the deck with a harness and learn where and when is safe to clip it on.
