Dromon

It was first invented approximately in 200 BC. Its other names are liburnian or simply runner. It was designed as war ship, and it had only 2 banks for oarsmen. It had "two versions" so to speak - when its purpose was to travel fast, so it was very light. The heavy ships were used in battle - they had up to 100 oars, very well equipped for fighting.
